You-Do-You

You have made it through your week-long to-do lists and the daily grind. Some lists are scratched out with a smile. Others are yet again starred or circled with a deep sigh, “Maybe I will do that next week.”
Is your brainpower starting to lag? Do you lose your momentum and energy as the week nears Friday? For many, the weekend is set aside to take care of the personal stuff; time with your family, home chores, maybe even close friends, and recreational fun. The ways we tend to feed our souls. This mind and energy shift helps create renewed interest and recharges the brain with chemicals it needed to keep focus, momentum, and energy. Here comes Monday.
How about a Friday tip. Build your self-awareness.
Through self-awareness, you pay attention to what you are using to get you to the end of the week. Pay attention to the sighs and the smiles. What helps you push through? The push-throughs are those strategies and coping skills you use to get it done. Is it your daily to-do list, the evening carrot of a Netflix show you sit to watch, a marble in the jar, the bubble bath, or the pat on the back from your boss for a task well done? Maybe, it’s purely the paycheck or the smiles on your patient’s faces or the change you make in someone’s day. What drives you?
Here’s a key to the most profound understanding of self. Discover your strengths and your values. You are peeling back the true layer of what is creating the sighs and the smiles. If what you have to do regularly is constantly challenging your strengths or what you are asked to complete is against your values, you will find yourself seriously lagging by Friday. Honoring yourself is vital. If you want to know more about your strengths and values, go to to Personality Test, Personality Assessment: VIA Survey | VIA Institute (viacharacter.org) to take the VIA Character Strengths Survey that will enlighten you about what your true “superpowers” are.
