Finding Tools and Being Inspired-An uPLifted Series- October 2023
With the world nearly at our fingertips, where do you find your inspiration? Do you find it within, from wise counsel, a parent, partner, or friend? Or do you turn to the ether of all answers, the internet, social media, AI? Oxford defines inspiration as the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially something creative. It can come from many directions, so with it everywhere, what do you really need?
First, be open to being inspired
Inspiration can’t land if you’re closed to it. Being open is the first tool, a willingness to let a quote, a person, or a moment stir something in you rather than scrolling past it.
Turning an old habit into a good one
My very first post as a Life Coach, back on August 20, 2020, paired an H.G. Wells line, “If you fell down yesterday, stand up today,” with an image of a path forward. Years earlier I had vowed to quit social media and its endless scrolling, because at the time it had no purpose that served me and it kept me falling. Later, an evolved version of me challenged that vow. What was once “bad” for me became an opportunity to do good, so I chose to use those platforms for inspiration instead, to help dispel the stigma and shame around ADHD.
Finding the tools that move you
Inspiration is a starting spark, but tools carry it forward: flowing with life instead of fighting it, understanding your ADHD emotions, and strengthening executive functioning. The point isn’t to consume more content, it’s to notice what genuinely stirs you to act, and to build from there.
Don’t let ADHD prevent you from achieving your dreams. Be open, find your tools, and let inspiration move you. There is power in your wiring, and you are worthy of living ADHD uplifted.
